Jin Young Ko is now back on top. Ranking number one in the world after her win at the BMW Ladies Championship. She has eleven wins and two majors. Her career earnings add up to $7,557,293 with 41 career top 10’s. She regained her #1 on October 24. Now let's talk about her career.
Through the years.
Jin Young Ko was born in South Korea on July 7, 1995, making her 26 years old. Her parents had a big impact on her golf career. They started her in competitive golf at age 7. She turned pro in 2013, making her only 18 years old. She did not make an appearance in a Major until 2018.
In 2018, she made 25 appearances with 24 cuts. She also became a Rolex First-Time Winner at the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open, and joined Beverly Hanson (1951 Eastern Open) as the only players in LPGA history to win in their debut as Tour Members. She had 13 top-10 finishes and clinched Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year honors with four events remaining in the season.
In 2019, she entered 22 events and made 22 cuts. Her yearly earnings this year was $2,773,894. She earned four victories along with two of five major championships, with eighth additional top-10 finishes including three runner-up performances. She led the tour in Race to CME Globe points (4,148), Official Money ($2,773,894), greens in regulation (79.56%), scoring average (69.06), rounds under par (64), and rounds in the 60's (47).
In 2020, due to Covid Jin Young Ko only made it to four events but made the cut at all four tournaments, gaining $1,667,925 that year. Before winning the CME Group Tour Championship she qualified for the season finale in only three starts. And despite playing only four events, she finished first on the 2020 LPGA Official Money List.
In 2021, she ended up tied for ninth at the Tokyo Olympics. She has made 17 appearances so far with four wins. She also made the cut for all tournaments except for one. Her most recent tournament, BMW Ladies Championship, she ended -22 and earned $300,000.
Her caddie is David Brooker and has been her caddie since 2019. Dave Brooker is a legend on the LPGA caddie circuit. He has carried the bags for Lorena Ochoa, Suzann Pettersen, Paula Creamer and Grace Park in the past.
Some remarkable things Jin Young Ko has accomplished is that Ko managed to play 114 consecutive holes without a bogey in 2019, beating Tiger Woods' record of 110-holes in 2000. She also came two strokes short of having her own LPGA record. Ko was trying to shoot her 15th straight round on tour in the 60s. If she had done it, she'd have broken the mark for most consecutive competitive rounds in the 60s first set by Annika Sorenstam in 2005 and later tied by So Yeon Ryu in 2016-17.
Jin Young Ko has made it back to the top. Ko was No.1-ranked from July 20, 2019, to June 27, 2021, a streak of 100 consecutive weeks on top. Then was beat out by Nelly Korda for about five months, but now she is back on top.
